Soul Purpose, from San Francisco, do a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" that's low-key solid, with lead vocalist Christina Stogsdill singing in a bluesy, husky, wounded voice that dips low into the emotional weariness of the song. Secret weapon Kidd Funk has played bass with The Bar-Kays, Pete Escovedo and Thompson Twins. They do a charmingly simple "Brass in Pocket" by the Pretenders, adding a more mature sass to it. These guys can bring it. This is their Sly's debut. [WR]
9pm-1am. Sly McFly's, 700 Cannery Row, Suite A, Monterey. 649-8050.
