Mr. Day sounds like the kind of hip-hop artist that Aesop Rock would be if Aesop allowed himself to have a little more fun. He takes hip-hop out of the standard backdrop and puts it in a three-ring circus. Backed by a magnificent seven, his well crafted-and at times pretty funny-lyrics flow over indie/experimental melodies making a weird match made in Heaven. If the crowd has as much fun as this band appears to be having, they’re in for a treat. Forrest Day celebrates their CD Release on Friday with opening act, LA's mad scientists of hip hop, Ostrich Head. [LC]
