Renowned and gorgeous voiced jazz singer Diane Reeves, who was the first vocalist signed to the reactivated Blue Note/EMI record label, takes the helm of this year's Monterey Jazz Festival Artist-in-Residence, and leads the Summer Jazz Camp, stocked with 11 music clinicians, together guiding more than 150 of the the county's most promising young jazz students. Part of that tutelage includes free live shows peppered throughout the Peninsula. The Student Jam Session kicks things off 6-8pm Monday, June 21, followed by Vocal Solo Mic Night 6-8pm Tuesday, June 22, both at Gilbert's Seafood Grill Restaurant (30 Fisherman's Wharf, 2nd floor); a Combos Concert touches down 7-9pm Wednesday, June 23, at MPC Auditorium (980 Fremont St., Monterey); and the shows crescendo with the Vocal Ensemble & Big Band Concert 7-9:30pm Thursday, June 24, at Pacific Grove Middle School Auditorium (835 Forest Ave., P.G.).
