This past spring, CSUMB hosted the Monterey Bay Film Festival, a screening of shorts by young filmmakers from the school's Department of Teledramatic Arts and Technology and elsewhere, curated by Sundance Film Festival programmer Mike Plante. This encore reprises the diverse works of cinematic music videos, animation, documentaries and narratives, including the kinetic "iDance," about two hip-hop dancers who wax poetic about why they dance. A wine reception with Forest Theater Guild's Rebecca Barrymore (yes, there's a relation) precedes the films, the films run less than 10 minutes, and run about one hour in total. Warm clothes and blankets are suggested, as are snacks from the concession stands, to make this outdoor film screening a cozy, stimulating affair. [WR]
7pm wine reception; 8:15pm film screenings. Outdoor Forest Theater, Santa Rita and Mountain View, Carmel. $10. 582-3653, 626-1681. http://www.foresttheaterguild.org.
