This Oscar-winning documentary made a big splash when it was released, and still is—it's nearly banned in Japan, the country in which most of the action takes place. And "action" is the right word for this espionage expose in which a team of guerilla filmmakers, divers, techies and adventurers band together to film one of the most gruesome and brutal scenes of animal cruelty since the clubbing of baby seals in the '80s. It's a beautiful movie of an ugly occurence, and its bloody ripples are still emanating across the film, fishing, animal and conservation communities. And beyond. It's brought to you by the folks at the BLUE Ocean Film Festival, who hope to nab director Louie Psihoyos for a personal appearance and talk, which would be movie-activist magic. [WR]
