Henrik Ibsen's dark comedy opens on a sleepy coastal town which has just opened the Municipal Baths & Spa for therapy for invalids, and it turns into a soothing, beloved pastime for th townfolk. But a doctor discovers that the waters have become polluted and attempts to shut it down. Big mistake. The townspeople revolt not against that which is poisoning them, but the lone man who is trying to protect them. Staff Players are adept at choosing classic plays that ring true today, like Waiting for Lefty (little guy versus the fat cats); this one touches on water rights, pollution and the way masses of people can lose perspective and common sense when it comes to things like, oh, health care reform.
