How often does an American Idol winner come to grace our humble burg? If the people at www.1017the beach.com have something to say about it, this won't be the last time. Simon, Randy, Karla and Ellen (Ellen!) may not be coming to town, but Kris Allen, who won the 2009 competition when the heavily favored Adam Lambert's gender-bending antics proved too much for the voting public, will be making an appearance at Planet Gemini courtesy of the good folks at KCDU's 107thebeach.com, who have previously brought you David Grey (CK), and are reportedly working out future gigs with BareNaked Ladies and Blue October's lead singer. Allen didn't exactly tear up the charts, but he's an amiable sort, with a sweet persona, and nice enough pipes. Well, unlike the character Jeff Bridges played in Crazy Heart, at least Kris won't be playing a bowling alley. [PW]
