Roland Petersen: 50 Years of Painting at La Mirada

This exhibition celebrates the Danish-American artist, a second-generation member of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, whose vividly colored abstract expressionist works have made him one of California's most well-known artists. Weaving in natural figures from the central coast and flirting with color, form and light, Petersen's highly dualistic paintings are both orderly and chaotic and riddled with symbolism that spans artistic movements back to the Egyptians. The exhibition is Petersen's first museum retrospective, opens March 12, and runs through June 20. [MC]
