Is there any better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than by following bagpipes and drums to local restaurants and pubs? You certainly don't need to be Irish to enjoy the rhythmic, march medleys of our local pipe band. The Monterey Bay Pipe Band is marching forward with their annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl. From 6:00 to 8:00pm members in their MacKenzie tartan will be parading through Cannery Row. Their show starts at Bullwackers Restaurant and Patio Pub (653 Cannery Row) and advances to Blue Fin Cafe and Billiards (685 Cannery Row). They will move to Sly McFly's Refueling Station (700 Cannery Row) and march on to Steinbeck Plaza (700 Cannery Row) and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company (720 Cannery Row). The band will hop, skip, and jump to London Bridge Pub (256 Fiqueroa Street/ Wharf No. 2) where they perform at 8:30pm. For their grand finale (after 9:30pm) they will go on to perform at the Mucky Duck Restaurant (479 Alvarado St.) and Britannia Arms Pub & Restaurant (444 Alavarado St.) in downtown Monterey. Our local Pipe Band consists of students, soldiers, teachers, retirees, that share a love for music, specifically Celtic tunes. Established in 1962, they have a long history of thrilling, toe tapping performances. More recently, they have also earned the prestigious first place award for a Grade 4 Pipe Band from the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA). Ring in St. Patrick's Day with these fine folks. [CT]
