"Life is a cabaret my friends," sings the emcee and host of the Kit Kat Klub in 1930s Berlin as the Nazis rise to power. This musical tells the tale, based on a Christopher Isherwood novel, of young, aspiring British singer Sally Bowles and young, aspiring American writer Cliff Bradshaw, who team up in the struggle against poverty and corruption to fulfill their dreams in the heady, hedonistic scene of Weimar German. The winner of 12 Tony awards (the movie adaptation nearly swept the Oscars) comes to Carmel for one evening, by way of Winwood Productions, as part of a nationwide tour. [WR]
