Triathletes have to be skilled at several things to succeed. The same applies to traithlon organizers—and that's precisely what the Wildflower shot callers have achieved, to such wildly diverse effect that, in its 28th year, the Flower is wildly successful enough to be the largest event of its kind in the world, and a blast for participants and spectators alike. To wit, there are long-course, mountain bike and Olympic options, triathlete testimonials, 20,000 people camping on acres of scenic sites, pasta carbo load dinners, live music booming from grassy hills (from the likes of Soul Sauce, Matt Cross and Ostinato Swing), a kid zone, a stacked exhibitor-vendor expo, water demos…and the legendary lakeside hills that make legs burn like the South County sun. The race is on. [MCA]
