Oakland blues anti-hero Willie G sings about gritty stuff like doing time in prison or doing time in a busted relationship or living in Oakland. But he's dealt with trouble in the past, confronting racist Texans as a youngster, being homeless—the stuff of the blues. But he's since survived and arrived, earning the Blues Contribution Award by the Bay Area Blues Society. He puts it down at Sly's tonight in a show of upbeat downbeat blues. [WR]
