The first thing that stands out about Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is it looks more like a touring hippie commune of 10-12 members than folk revivalists. Fronted by Alex Ebert—whose alter-ego is Edward Sharpe—the Laurel Canyon-based outfit has quickly made a name for itself within the “freak-folk” scene playing grandiose tunes that make you think of epic films like The Greatest Story Ever Told and Once Upon a Time in the West.
