Picture the Burning Man Festival but take away the desert and the rave kids and replace them with lush forests, beaches and your dog. That's Burning Dog. They will construct a large wooden canine effigy to set ablaze, in the same style as the Burning Man Fest. The four-day Big Sur camping festival for dog owners begins June 11 and includes hikes through Sand Dollar Beach and Salmon Creek Falls. There are many art projects including T-shirt and bandana making and ceramics. Side trips include Hearst Castle (for $24 extra), Esalen Hot Springs (for $20 extra) and the Whale Watcher Cafe. People and their dogs will also gather for BBQs, a luau and live music by Jim Conroy. Space is limited so reservations must be made by June 7. For more information visit www.burningdogfestival.com.
