Apparently the Monterey County Vintners and Growers aren't mucking around. They roll out 175 different locally grown tastes, and that's just for one event. "Boot camps" in the vineyard (think intense, and intensely flavorful learning from the vine to the barrel), barrel sampling sessions at the Aquarium, winery open houses by the score, seminars by the sea, big fat tastings and classes culinary. Some of the biggest values include the big-sippin' event and the 14 winemaker dinners—pairing powerhouses like J. Lohr-Jacks and Scheid-Whaling Station—while an extensive Wine Enthusiast greatest-hits dinner or the "culinary showcase" at the Intercontinental look like splurges worth sampling. [MCA]
