It begins with an intimate and exclusive dinner for 24 Wednesday at photographer Edward Weston's historic Wildcat Hill home, hosted by Kim and Gina Weston. Then the fireworks. Thursday, 600 are invited to the opening gala at Sunset Center with wine and dine by Bernardus Lodge's Cal Stamenov, a performance by the South African singing fellas of Overtone, a new Clint Eastwood Filmmakers Award designed by sculptor Gustavo Torres, a film screening and a fine art photography exhibit, which runs through Oct. 30. There are independent film features, documentaries and shorts at several venues (including Carmel Beach) Oct. 7-10, each screening followed by a Q&A with the director. (Last year, director Lee Daniels came to Golden State Theatre following a screening of his film Precious.) Saturday, the two-day outdoor art show takes over Devendorf Park. And stuff just keeps coming, with lectures, director dinners, musicians, parties, a tech expo (including an intro to the new Sony 3D Playstation) and other creative activities. They even have a store hawking cool merch at Carmel Plaza (third floor). See the website for details. (See Art story.) [WR]
