Decades after its closing, the Republic Café, a bustling enclave for Chinese, Japanese and Filipinos, will be reborn as the Salinas Chinatown Cultural Center and Museum. The purpose of the symposium is to raise awareness of the new museum, scheduled to open in 2012, and the rich history that will be chronicled and preserved through exhibitions, oral histories, artifacts and cultural events. The daylong event brings together scholars, community members, students and museum professionals to share their ideas and vision for the museum. [DVD]
