The Monterey Symphony opens their 2010-11 season with a bang. They’ll perform compositions from three of the genre’s heavy hitters: Wagner, Strauss, and Brahms. As if that wasn’t enough, Lori Guilbeau, a soaring soprano and the winner of the 2010 New York’s Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, joins the symphony for their opener. Basically, she is one of the country’s top singers and her presence will not only bring prestige to Sherwood Hall, but delight audiences. What could be better than getting your money’s worth and being taken on an orchestral journey to the heavens? Saturday at Sherwood Hall offers a final rehearsal at 3pm before the 7pm performance, followed by two performances at Carmel's Sunset Center Sunday and Monday. [MF]
