There’s a lot of bands who like to play dress up to look like they stepped out of a western saloon. Although entertaining, there isn’t much substance to most of them. The Silent Comedy-in all their bowler hat and mustachioed glory-goes beyond any hint of “just a novelty act.” Although they may sound “old-timey,” they breathe real life into the songs and it flows naturally. As the band grows and matures it’s sounding less and less like they are trying to imitate sounds of the past and more like this is the music they were always meant to play. They may as well look the part too. [LC]
