Simon Williams' clever comedy tells the zany story of Leonard Loftus, a nebbish statistician who secretly writes women's romance novels under the nom de plume Lulabelle Lafita to counter any feminist bias. When he/she wins a prize under the unlikely pseudonym, Loftus must keep up the ruse despite the compllications from his rebellious daughter, kooky father and the feminist publisher, Harriet, whom he comes to fall in love with. Magic Circle has traversed some serious high drama in its reincarnation, balanced with the irreverant comedy. This one falls deftly in the latter category.
