Each outfit performing in Big Sur creates its own distinct atmosphere through music. Cold Cave, a favorite of Simpson’s creator Matt Groening, is a brew of distortion, ambiance and heavy synths. Abe Vigoda (the band, not the funny looking actor) plays what they describe as “calypso punk.” LA Vampires, featuring Pocahaunted’s Amanda Brown, is a murky Los Angeles stew of deep dub and drone, while Vetiver, a regular visitor to these parts, brings a blissful blend of spacey folk.
