Santa Cruz artist D. Hooker presents portraits of an unexpected bent: oil paint, charcoal, glue and various collage materials blend to create portraits that speak with freshness and dynamism. She creates two-dimensional paintings on wood and plexiglass as well as wooden cigar boxes. Exhibit runs from Aug. 24 through Sept. 24, with an artist's reception on Thursday, Sept. 9. If you've ever looked into a mirror and seen a portrait you couldn't decipher, take an intriguing look at Ms. Hooker's take on the portrayal of the most interesting subject: other people. [EH]
