In 1987 Estella Garcia, the main character of the play, dreams of becoming an entrepreneur by starting a small garment business with the help of friends and family in the city of Los Angeles. However the constant fear of becoming deported in an obstacle for her and her dreams. When the Simpson-Rodino Amnesty Law granted thousands of undocumented immigrants living in the United States legal residency thousands, not trusting the government, hesitated to apply, fearing this was a scheme to deport them. Garcia resists and continues to live with the constant threat of being arrested and deported, while everyone else around her applies and are granted citizenship. [DC]
