The Hyatt's Fireside Lounge has long been a gathering spot for seasoned local and out-of-town musicians (and the folks who love good music) to marinate in a free-flowing jam environment where you don't know who will show up to sit in on the jazz, blues and standards sets. The last Sunday of the month is especially strong; last month you would have found a swirling scene, emceed by jazz singer Lee Durley, with a rare appearance by Brazilian pianist and former local Weber Iago, drummers Billy Jones and Andy Weiss, sax master George Young, flutist Kenny Stahl, bassist Steve Uchello, singers John Laurence and a comeback by Ree Brunell. There were more; some didn't play, just listened. No guarantees; just surprises. [WR]
