Losers deals with the anguish artistic types go through when they fail to achieve fame and fortune as actors, writers or artists and must face the possiblity that they just don't have what it takes. The play follows one such person's self-deluded efforts at success and the many rebuffs along the way. G.K. Chesterton once observed: "The artistic temperament is a disease that affects amateurs." For Losers' playwrite Charles Marowitz, that artistic temperament has served him well as a winner of many awards throughout his career including the Louis B. Mayer Playwriting Award for the long-running black comedy Sherlock's Last Case. The play is directed by Conrad Selvig, a long-time associate of Marowitz at the Open Space Theatre in one of London's most successful Off-West End theatres through the 70s. [DVD]
