Monterey Now: Mari Kloeppel at Monterey Museum of Art-Pacific

The long-lived love that painter Mari Kloeppel has for animals comes through in her unmistakably lavish treatment of them in her oil paintings. According to a bio, she coaxes fine detail from "hundreds" of layers of paint, and hones down to brushes of one to 10 hair counts. Once a student of the German Expressionistic Blue Rider Group, she's nestled securely in her own style of photo-realistic accuracy and microscopicly tuned details, though her subjects--horses, birds, oxen--serve as powerful portraits of, in her words, "quiet and contemplative" connection. Giclee prints and a catalogue of her work is available at the museum gift shop; She will be available to the public at Thursday's Art After Hours party March 17, which opens her graceful MontereyNOW exhibit.
