Jona Bechtolt, founding member of the elctropop-synth outfit YACHT, didn’t name his band after a luxury ocean liner; it came from the acronym of an education program he was enrolled in as a teen: Young Americans Challenging High Technology. The name reflects Bechtolt’s obsession with electronics, something he’s surrounded himself since the 90s and ultimately helped him become one of the most innovative minds in indie rock. After eight years, the Portland musician expanded his solo project into a duo with the addition of longtime collaborator, Claire L. Evans. That’s when heads really started turning. [AJ]
