The Symphony is going strong, having just reached retirement age for most people. To celebrate their occasion, music director and conductor Max Bragado-Darman brings to the fore members of their own brass section, including principal trombonist Phil Keen and principal tubist Forrest Byram. And they'll proffer anniversary cake at the intermission of each performance, which will range over Mozart's Le nozze di Fagaro overture, Dubensky's Concerto Grosso for Three Trombones and Tuba, Sibelius's The Swan of Tuonela and works by Ginastera and Faure. A big, brassy birthday gig that moves over to Carmel's Sunset Center Sunday and Monday. [WR]
