Capriccio at Century Cinemas

In his final Opera titled "Capriccio," German composer Richard Strauss questions whether words or music are more meaningful. Set in 1775 in a château near Paris, "Capriccio" unfolds the inquiry in a dramatic tale concerning a countess torn between a two suitors: a poet and a composer. Soprano Renée Fleming plays Countess Madeleine and captivates each audience as she performs the entire work, also starring actors Joseph Kaiser and Sarah Connolly. Fleming ices the cake in her final scene as she breathtakingly bursts in her high-pitched to perfection voice about the inseparability of words and music giving the audience shivers. Presented live at Century Cinemas, "Capriccio" is sung in German with English subtitles, and runs for 2 hours and 45 minutes. It encores 6:30pm Wednesday May 11.[CK]
