Christened A FantaSea of Art, this is the biggest party of the year in this county. You won't find a bigger or more festive or more inclusive or more culturally loaded celebration of anything. And though it's family-friendly and alcohol-free and contained within several blocks of downtown Monterey, kid-free adults will not leave nonplussed at all the avenues and venues in which to engage. One can volunteer and get in on the inside and behind the scenes of the revelry; there are workshops on Wednesday and Thursday to build instruments for a Junk Jam on party night; the Twilight Procession of musicians, jugglers, dancers and community groups gets a dose of awfully cute kid participation; music, art and performance abounds, as well as something less definable but no less nourishing—spirit.
