The first comparison that comes to mind after hearing the Los Angeles-based outfit Dawes play is the Band. The ragamuffin crew is also known for its ability to play night after night on the road, without a day off. Over the past year, the twentysomethings have been on the rise, lumped in with other successful indie folk bands like Fleet Foxes and Edward Sharpe. Most recently, Dawes played the Newport Folk Festival, making its likening to the Band even more conceivable. Jonny Corndawg opens (see Music story). [AJ]
