The 25-year-old Kim is recognized as one of the most promising American pianists of his generation winning numerous international competitions, including the 55th ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2006. The quartet has won its share of honors as well, including first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competititon. They accompany Kim on Shostakovich's Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57. The quartet also performs Kurtag's, 12 Microludes for String Quartet and Beethoven's String Quartet in A Major, Op. 18, No. 5. A pre-concert talk is given by Kai Christiansen, a writer and lecturer on chamber music. [DVD]
