Dear Indugu at East Village

There was Radiohead, and Damien Rice ringing in my head as I listened along to the licks and lyrics of Dear Indugu. Their influences list goes from Bright Eyes to Third Eye Blind. The lead man, Jesse Strickman is a pretty musical guy. He sings through his whole voice mail message. The video of he and his rhythm guitarist covering "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen gave me chills as the strumming picked up pace and the vocals belted out one of my personal favorites. The band's name comes from the movie "About Schmidt" where Jack Nicholson's character starts up a pen-pal relationship with his foster son in Africa and pours his heart out. The music that Dear Indugu produces on stage embodies just that. Heart-felt songs and personal experiences amplified, with loads of instrumental breaks and well-laid song lyrics. Dear Indugu, can you hear my songs? Dear Indugu plays with John Miller and The Black Lodge. [ZK]
