Though it was programmed months earlier, the four new exhibitions introduced here mark the first under the helm of the new incoming Executive Director Jacquelyn Hope. They include En Dehors du Temps (Outside of Time), Meredith Mullins photographs of Paris, Budapest and Istanbul taken during her extended (four years and counting) stay in Paris. Another exhibition is Peter Plamondon's pen-and-ink drawings of scenes from his travels across the country, which are simple yet sophisticated. Monterey's own Robert Armstrong, who has done many shows in the Bay Area, uses paint, kelp, cloth, ceramics, metal, dried fruit, cord and wood in his work. Finally, four Santa Cruz women photographers collectively working as the Different Directions group put on a show of variety and breadth. Many area galleries and creative spaces stay open late to entertain visitors. Go to PGAC's opening reception for these new exhibits and explore the art, meet Jacqui—as she's called—and a couple hundred of your fellow art aficionados. The shows run until Feb. 17. [WR]
7-9pm Fri Jan. 7 opening reception; regular hours: Noon-5pm Wed-Sat, 1-4pm Sun. Pacific Grove Art Center, 568 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove. Free. 375-2208. http://www.pgartcenter.org.
