The first performance of PacRep's School of Dramatic Arts, as residents of the Indoor Forest Theatre, is a live reading by local actors of the works of National Book Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet Mary Oliver, directed by Suzanne Sturn. Influenced by Whitman and Thoreau, Oliver's book, Dream Work, has been compared to Ralph Waldo Emerson by The Nation while the Los Angeles Times ascribed a "fresh intensity" to her Pulitzer-winning collection, American Primitive. Maybe Oliver, who soaks up inspiration from nature, can inform on the passing of one steward of children's theater in Carmel with the ascension of another—death, birth, renewal. It's a cycle, isn't it? It runs for two days. [WR]
7:30pm Mon-Tue. Indoor Forest Theatre, Mountain View between Santa Rita and Guadalupe, Carmel. Free; donations appreciated. 622-0100. http://www.pacrep.org.
