Heartstrings at Carl Cherry

For 18 years, Heartstrings—an ensemble of violin, bass, hammered dulcimer, mandolin and guitar—has treated Monterey County to conventional acoustic music. The versatile quintet’s album, Canciones del Pais de California, is a melodic journey into the songs of the Spanish Californians of yesteryear. On its Travelled CD, Heartstrings goes in a completely different direction and channels the traditional sounds of Celtic music. The concert is one of the three-part series, “Metamorphosis,” featuring the new work of area musicians. [AJ]
