Jazz musicians David Moorwood (drums), Lee Durley (vocals), Nat Johnson (bass), and Marshall Otwell (piano) hold their regular jam this Sunday afternoon. Over the past few years, the event has become a premier spot for jazz in Monterey, with local and visiting talent hopping up on stage. After they finish their first set, Moorwood expects horn, trumpet, and sax players to join in, as well as some vocalists later in the evening. The core band has deep connections to the music scene here in Monterey and elsewhere. Durley is on the Board of Directors for the Monterey Blues Festival, Johnson has helped develop important West Coast jazz clubs, and Otwell has worked with both trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and vocalist Carmen McRae. With events like this, the players hope to keep the art and community alive and kicking.
