There are myriad reasons this homegrown international film fest is back for the sixth year. Let's start with 51 excellent reasons. That's how many of the hundreds of films submitted from across the globe made it into this summer's line-up of Thursday evening lawn screenings in the great Henry Miller outdoors, running through to August 18. It's a magical and easy-breezy buffet of filmic stories and art and experiments. The magnetic pull of the place and event have even pulled in returning judges Laurie Anderson and Philip Glass and, new judge this year, Kirsten Dunst. This first evening's line-up spools up Il Gioco (The Game) from Italy, Air from the U.S., Suiker from the Netherlands and Crossing Salween from Ireland, Burma and Thailand. Enjoy. There will be popcorn. [WR]
