Banff Mountain Film Festival at Golden State Theatre

Featuring top-notch short films set within some of the world's most remote and beautiful places, the Banff Mountain Film Festival always delivers heart-pounding action and some perspective about our rapidly changing globe. This year's edition includes Eastern Rises, a flick about extreme fly fishers who dodge hungry bears and hungrier flies within Russia's Far East, and The Last Paradise, which is a short stuffed with vintage New Zealand surfing and snowboarding footage that helps illustrate how the island nation became a thrill seeker's mecca. In addition, during Stones Into Schools, the best-selling author Greg Mortenson pops up in a 12 minute examination of his project to build schools within Afghanistan. Proceeds from the fest benefit the Return of the Natives Restoration Education Project. [ST]
