Talk about serendipity. This documentary play opens the same weekend as the massive Death Penalty Focus symposium, but the two were programmed independent of each other. More compiled than written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, it tells the true story, in court transcripts and interviews, of six people who were wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death row, bringing us along their terrible journeys through a court system damaged by racism, prejudice and injustice. Golden State Theatre also hosted this play, which the New York Times called the "#1 play of the year" in 2009, but Magic Circle's Elsa Con promises these performances by a cast of 10 to be a fully realized production. It runs to March 20. [WR]
