Severin Browne's debut album, released by Motown in 1973, was titled Severin Browne. His follow-up, New Improved Severin Browne, came out the next year. But he didn't feel the company was pushing his songs—the secretaries didn't even know his name—so he walked away from recording altogether. It wasn't until 20 years later that Severin, brother of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson, put out his next album, From the Edge of the World. Severin's talent was suddenly back on the map, and his music showed a new versatility, rolling from R&B to rock to pop. His latest album, This Twisted Road, captures his talents peaking, and hits on the highs and lows of a life well-lived. He's no longer new and improved—he's aged and matured.[DS]
