Want to help save the world? Here's your chance and all that is needed is a bicycle and helmet. As the 17th annual Bike Week descends on Monterey County from May 9th-15, volunteers are gearing up to host events like the Bike vs. Car Challenge, the Twilight Ride at Laguna Seca raceway, and one countywide event where cyclists get free breakfast for riding to work. Thursday May 12th, cyclists can stop in at several locations for some free grub between 7-9am, while on their way to work. The Embassy Suites in Seaside, The Haute Enchilada Cafe in Moss Landing, and Jocelyn's Bicycles in Monterey are a few of the places providing a delicious incentive for getting on a bike instead of into a car the morning of the 12th. Monterey isn't the only county getting into the mix, San Benito and Santa Cruz county residents are also happily taking their helmets and bikes to the streets. Check the Monterey Bike Week website for all sponsors, schedule of events, and fun facts about riding bikes instead of using cars. [GS]
