The Carmel Art Festival becomes "legal" this year with its 18th return to the idyllic streets and galleries by the sea. Artists from all over California and the U.S. come to Carmel for four days of Plein Air art, live sculpture making, music, and even an art day for the kiddos. Enjoy bands at Devendorf Park like the Illuminati Trio, the Rotary Jazz Band, the Nick Williams Trio, and get lost in the sounds of the steel drum with Derek Smith's Duo. The park is the central "go-to" spot for all music and information. Plein Air artists will be stationed throughout the peninsula, painting for their work to be judged and sold/auctioned off. As well, sculptor Steven Whyte will collaborate with students from Chartwell School to sculpt a piece in public, which will be revealed at the end of the weekend. This event is free to all. Schedules of events, maps, list of artists, and general information can be found at: www.carmelartfestival.org. [GS]
