Taking into account that the Alt Cafe does drawing workshops, open mics, live music, improv and theater shows, and I don't even know what else, when they say this art show is big, you can believe that carries weight. And so it is. Their fourth New Brow show is swollen with a mess of artists who roam and rule the underground art scene, sometimes referred to as "lowbrow" or "new brow," as per the name of the documentary of the whole deal that resident filmmaker Tanem made. There is a synergy crackling between this May 13 art show opening—heavy with names like Eric Joyner, Shawn Barber, Van Arno, Anthony Ausgang, Chrystal Chan, Kelly Vivanco—of 24 artists' works, four DJs, some of the artists, the DVD of the film, and an afterparty at an as-yet-undisclosed location. This isn't just a show—it's a happening. Dig it. (See Art story.) [WR]
7-10pm. Alternative Cafe, 1230 Fremont Blvd., Seaside. Free to attend. 583-0913, www.thealternativecafe.com.
