Il Trovatore Live Screening at Century Cinemas Del Monte

Weaving a tale of refused love, vengeful pasts, and romantic sacrifice, Il Trovatore ("The Troubadour") is an Italian-infused opera, composed by Giuseppe Verdi from the Italian libretto (musical text) by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the 1836 play El Trovador by Spanish Romantic dramatist Antonio Garcia Gutierrez. Set in 15th century Spain, lady-in-waiting Leonara is the object of desire for both Count di Luna and Manrico. The love triangle is complicated once the Count learns Leonara's heart lies with Manrico. The foreboding tales of a gypsy surround the plot of the three lovers, their hidden fates culminating in a dramatic, shocking conclusion. The cast includes Sondra Radvanovsky as Leonara, Marcelo Álvarez as Manrico, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Count di Luna. Marco Armiliato conducts. Il Trovatore is one of the most-performed operas in the US. Broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera House, the play runs 3 hours and 30 minutes and is sung in Italian with English subtitles. [KD]
