The first major study of mountain lions in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Bay Area Puma Project began operation in mid-2008. Dr. Chris Wilmers is the lead researcher and tracks the lions with GPS collars. He is lecturing on how the mountain lion will survive given the recent development in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He's also trying to figure out how the lions get for the mountains to other nearby mountain ranges.
