Ever since Sleepy Sun released its debut album, Embrace, psych-rock lovers around the world have been hooked. The Santa Cruz quintet’s sound is druggy but not hazy or purposeless. Each bandmember’s musical mastery is apparent and lead singer, Bret Constantino, has a chameleon voice that can move from sweet to scream during the period of a single song. Sparrows Gate plays melodic folk-American rich with vocal harmonies and lyrics inspired by small-town California. [AJ]
