Can't get enough lore from the seminal 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival? Neither can we. So here's another fond and loving helping of that 3-day festival that everyone with gray hair today either wishes they had attended, or did attend and don't remember, and one that served as a blueprint for music festivals up through Lollapalooza and Rock the Bells. Released just a week ago, Harvey and Kenneth Kubernick have compiled an awesome-sounding book of the event, with candid and official photos of the people (let's run through the list, just for fun's sake: Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Grateful Dead, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Simon & Garfunkel, oh man, not to mention the blissed out hippie crowds), places and things (things like legal documents and posters) that swirled around those three legendary days at the Fairgrounds. There's even a "run-down and analysis" of every single performance. They sign this $45 marvel today, and if you buy it at the museum's gift shop during the signing, you get a free book plate. Print is so not dead. [WR]
2-5pm Sun. Museum of Monterey, 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey. Free to attend. 372-2608 x17, www.montereyhistory.org.
