If there's a rhetorical answer to choreographer Georges Balanchine's titular question, "Who Cares?" it's anyone who can tap their toe to Gershwin's greatest hits, the musical medley arranged for this ballet. Regional Monterey Symphony musicians accompany world-class dancers from the American Ballet Theater, making for a program that's got rhythm, and artistry. The program also honors Balanchine's Russian heritage with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2. Pre-concert lectures provide historical context one hour before each performance. [SR]
