Jewelry nuts and rock hounds alike come to the Monterey Fairgrounds every year for the Gem Faire. Now in its 22nd year, the faire features over 40 exhibitors selling and displaying crystals, minerals, and high quality ready-to-wear jewelry. With the holidays approaching, this is a great opportunity to grab good deals on those sparkly things to accent a wardrobe, or display in the home. This time around, the admission is free, which is like getting a free pass to a natural history museum. Being able to see rocks like quartz, jade, and amethyst in their raw crystalline form is to witness what nature hides within the earth until an intrepid soul stumbles upon the treasure. [GS]
